Trade Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardena says he will resign from his political career if he proves his involvement in the garlic scam.

Speaking to the media in Colombo today (02), the Minister also commented on the increase in the prices of consumer goods.

Addressing the gathering the Minister said,

“After a political appointee to the Consumer Affairs Authority made a very absurd allegation that I was involved in the Sathosa Garlic Fraud, I was in a situation where I could not say anything until the end of this investigation on anything other than matters within my purview. I have not been treated fairly until today. At present those involved in the fraud have been taken into custody by the Peliyagoda Police and some have been imprisoned and released on bail. If it is proved that I am involved in any form of theft, fraud, corruption or irregularity, I will resign as a Member of Parliament and a Minister immediately.
