Warning for powerful lightning

The Meteorological Department has issued an amber warning about strong lightning.

The Department states that this announcement issued today (03) at around 1 pm is valid until 9 pm today (03).

The Meteorological Department warns that there is a high probability of thundershowers in the Western, Central, Sabaragamuwa, North Central and North Western provinces and in the Vavuniya, Mannar, Badulla and Galle districts.

The department said in a statement that heavy showers of more than 100 mm were expected in some parts of the area.

The Meteorological Department warns that there could be temporary strong winds in those areas during thundershowers and urges the public to take necessary measures to minimize the dangers caused by lightning.
