Buses carrying more passengers than seats seized by police

It has been decided to keep buses carrying passengers in excess of the number of seats in police custody until further notice.

State Minister of Transport Dilum Amunugama stated that these steps will be taken in addition to suspending the licenses of such buses.

The State Minister also stated that the IGP has been informed in this regard.

Meanwhile, he further stated that although about 6,000 private buses were supposed to run in the Western Province yesterday (03), only 900 buses have been running.

The Minister of State stated that this is due to the fact that bus employees are now shifting to various other jobs.

Meanwhile, although 3,000 SLTB buses are ready to run, only 1,500 buses are required to run, the state minister said.
