Hambantota mayor’s councilorship suspended

The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna has suspended the position of Hambantota Naragadhipati Mr. Gamini Sri Ananda.

It is reported that the General Secretary of the Podujana Peramuna has sent the related letter to the Hambantota Election Office.

In this regard, Mayor Gamini Sri Ananda said that he was informed by the Election Office that the letter about the abolition of the councilor’s distance has been received by the Election Office, but since the relevant gazette update has not yet been issued, he is no longer engaged in his duties as the mayor of Hambantota.

Also, the mayor further said that he has been told to make excuses and so far no excuses have been made.

Mayor Mr. Gamini Sri Ananda represented the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna and was elected to the Hambantota Municipal Council to fill the vacancy caused by the voluntary resignation of former Mayor Eraj Fernando.

However, it is reported that Mr. Gamini Sri Ananda has run for the Hambantota Municipal Council this year from an independent group outside the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna.
